Photo flights by helicopter:
Oranjewoud conducts regular photographic flights above the Netherlands. This is nothing special, except for the fact that we are increasingly using a helicopter in the process. And this offers a number of advantages from both the practical and economic perspective.
Helicopter photogrammetry can, for instance, be used to map the details of main roads. Photos have been taken from a height of approximately 450 meters in order to revise digital topographical data files (DTB) of portions of the A2, A12 and A27.

Why a helicopter?
The low flight levels allow aerial photographs that provide a very large scale and an enormous level of detail, permitting the most accurate work possible. Aerial photography from the helicopter facilitates the registration of a great quantity of data at once and the collection of the information required.
Excellent archive
This information is subsequently processed from behind the desk (and not on the highway). Aerial photographs also form the basis for an excellent archive of the project area, to which additional data can be added at any time. Moreover, the flight season for helicopters is longer (from the middle of February to the middle of November), since helicopters can fly at lower levels.
Data collection for a digital terrain
A very special and innovative component of the photo flights is data collection for a digital terrain model (DTM). It is now possible to photographically capture a road's asphalt profile with accuracy (to 5 millimeters) from a height of only 75 meters above the highway. Other application options for helicopter photogrammetry include: collection of data for control and maintenance, road inspections, incident management, collection of data with respect to heights on land and water, display of waterways and electric line paths and monitoring complex and inaccessible locations.
