Archaeological expertise

Wherever we develop land, construct roads or build residences or office buildings in the Netherlands, we need to take into account our archaeological heritage. Both the European Treaty of Malta and the Monument Act coming into effect in the near future assume that the responsibility for consequences from soil excavations in regard to archaeology or cultural history lie with the entity causing the soil to be disturbed.

This, therefore, impacts greatly the planning and execution of spatial installation projects. So before ground is broken, in many cases archaeological studies are required. Oranjewoud has extensive expertise and experience at its fingertips in this regard.

Many disciplines

Oranjewoud can inventory and portray items of archaeological value, advise how to handle remains that may exist and, if no other solutions are available, organize a dig in which archaeological remains are removed and documented.

Oranjewoud offers support in the form of consulting, project management, requirements program and execution in just about all areas of archaeological monument care. Due to the many disciplines within our company it is even possible to combine archaeological activities with, for instance, expert nature and environmental studies. This combination provides our clients with savings in terms of both time and cost.

Guaranteed quality

Oranjewoud is one of the first engineering bureaus in the Netherlands that has received certification to perform archaeological work from the College voor de Archeologische Kwalitiet (CvAK - College for Archaeological Quality). Before a company is allowed to perform archaeological activities, it is required to show that it has the necessary qualifications.

Oranjewoud meets all requirements

The Kwaliteitsnorm Nederlandse Archeologie (KNA – Quality standard for Dutch archaeology), prepared by CvAK, specifies requirements with regard to personnel, procedures and administration. The certificate signifies that Oranjewoud meets all requirements with respect to archaeological advisory services in spatial planning, archaeological management, the conduct of archaeological studies and excavations and archaeological supervision.
