3d photography

Measurement-based knowledge is key in renovating or expanding company terrain, industrial locations, drilling platforms or in maintaining monument buildings. The building design measurements must be correct. Oranjewoud uses 3D laser scanning technology permitting the creation of three-dimensional drawings or photographs.

When company premises or a drilling platform are ready to be replaced or renovated, the new design has to fit into the existing situation with perfect accuracy. Often drawings and sizes do not correspond to the actual situation.

Mapping is a major job

Where the maintenance of monument buildings is concerned, drawings are often not even available and in the petrochemical industry, mapping the geometry of piping constructions is a major job. 3D laser scanning allows the accurate, rapid and safe measurement of the existing situation ('as-built situation'). The great advantage is that the companies concerned experience no loss of sales, since their business processes do not have to be halted: laser scanning is performed from a safe distance.

Extra dimension

Clearly 3D scanning techniques have an extra dimension compared to traditional measurement methods. And for Oranjewoud clients this technique has an another aspect yet besides geometric data. Oranjewoud, long a provider of geometric services, can process 3-dimensional data into an integrated building design for expansion or renovation that incorporates the client's wishes.

Furthermore, the possibility exists of using the data to produce virtual reality film, wherein a spectator is 'swept along' into the existing situation onto which future situations can be projected. Using interactive 3D simulations, this can be an important accessory in construction decisions and the participatory process. This 'total solution' lends added value to Oranjewoud services.

Window to the future

3D laser scanning is a good method for obtaining a great deal of information on an object in a short period of time. We implement 3D laser scanning projects because there is reason to believe that there is an increasing need for 'real' 3-dimensional information. Three-dimensional data collection fits well into our current work approach and also creates a window to the future…
