Course- Waste materials, the environment and your safety

Based on our long and in-depth experience with practice among contractors in the civil engineering sector, Oranjewoud has gained sound knowledge of the environmental factors that play a role in this sector. It appears in practice that many of the questions in the area of environment, waste and related safety aspects remain unanswered. Some examples of these are:'Is this free asphalt dangerous waste or not? And what am I allowed to do with it?'

'We recently had a case of asbestos pollution and then those guys in their white astronaut-like uniforms showed up. Right next to the tape they put up, we had to do our work… Is that safe?'

In a four-day course we provide you with the most practical answers possible to these questions (and many more).

Purpose
In this cour

e you are taught the knowledge and skills that will enable you to handle waste materials released when conducting work in the civil engineering sector in a responsible manner from an environmental hygiene and legal perspective. Moreover, you will be in a position to assess the risks related to waste materials and to implement appropriate preventive measures.

Target group
The course is intended for those who deal with waste materials and the environment in their jobs. This target group includes not only those performing on the shop-floor, but also those involved in preparatory functions. This course is at the LBO/MBO (junior/senior vocational educational) level.

Structure
The course material consists of an extensive syllabus developed by Oranjewoud. The syllabus encompasses a series of diagrams and step plans for dealing with environmental issues such as waste, legislation and (environmental) safety aspects in practice.

Work approaches include:

  • Teaching the minimum amount of theory necessary step by step;
  • Working out practical assignments on the part of attendees and follow-up discussions;
  • A homework assignment in which the attendee has the opportunity of exploring his own practice in detail in relation to course topics;
  • Exchange of information among attendees.

Most attention by far is devoted to the latter three work methods.

Course duration
The course lasts four days. These days can be taught separately or in blocks of two days each.

Course location
The courses may be given at a client's site as well as in any of a number of Oranjewoud offices (please refer also to Organization/Offices on this site).

Custom work
Specific client wishes can be taken into consideration when drawing up the course.
